WINS PRO 4 MAN CHALLENGE
DK/Right
Guard Xtreme Sport AA Pro BMX racer Matt Pohlkamp got his ABA Grands
weekend off to a great start by winning Greg Romero's Pro 4 Man
Challenge. The pro only event featured a four rider format and $5,000.00
purse.
The first annual
event was created by AA Pro BMX racer Greg Romero, who lives nearby
the ABA Grands venue outside Tulsa, Oklahoma. Romero brainstormed
the race during an X-Games after party. He wanted to create more
pro only events that feature tougher tracks and more excitement
for fans. According to DK/Right Guard Xtreme Sport's Robbie Miranda,
Greg definitely accomplished his goal. "The race was lots of
fun and featured a lot of crashing. People were going over turns
all over the place." Miranda made it to the semi-finals.
Pohlkamp enjoyed
the Pro 4 Man Challenge and was consistently out in front. He took
home $1,700.00 for the win. He and DK./RGX team-mate Miranda will
both compete in the ABA Grandnationals on Saturday and Sunday.
CHRIS
DOYLE INVITED ON ROAD FOOLS 11
DK/Right Guard Xtreme
Sport pro Chris "The D Man" Doyle has been invited to tour with
the Props Visual crew on Road Fools 11. The tour takes place in
mid-February and will visit various spots in the southwestern US.
This is Doyle's second Road Fools appearance having been on the
cast of RF8. He is just as excited and honored to be invited back.

THE PROPS
MEGA TOUR
The Props Mega
Tour has come to a close and the DK/Right Guard Xtreme Sport team
had a blast. Here are some of the highlights:
Chris Doyle proved that he's far more than a dirt
jumper and destroyed every park on the tour. Possibly the biggest
trick that he pulled was when he 360 tailwhipped from the spine
to the box jump landing at Four Seasons in Madison, Wisconsin. You'll
see it in Ride and on video.
Colin Winkelmann put as much energy into sabotaging
other teams' vans as he did into riding. When he wasn't putting
Vaseline under the windshield wipers of the Kink and Odyssey teams,
Colin could be find killing the mini ramp at every park.
Aaron Behnke sat back and laughed at Colin's ideas
and antics, but also found time for some technical riding at every
park. He was also game for street sessions in Chicago and Madison.
A lot of people on tour used to think that Aaron was simply a flatlander.
He proved them wrong.
Chris Adamski was the most stylish guy on the squad,
Adamski flowed around most parks finding creative lines and looking
smooth. Filmers, photographers, and fans all asked who he was. Video
should do his riding style justice.
Micah Krantz was the ringleader in the DK van and
somehow survived thousands of miles of Colin's backseat driving.
He pulled backflips at most parks and left everyone stoked on how
well he can ride.
Dusty Horton tailwhipped his way across the Midwest
and visited many of the parks he once rode before relocating from
Wisconsin to Ohio. Everyone on the team was stoked that Dusty dressed
up as Micah for Halloween. It was hilarious.
Unfortunately Todd Everette was forced to miss
the Mega Tour thanks to the DC Sniper. The gunmen hit a few days
before the tour in Ashland and sent the city of Richmond, VA into
a panic. Todd is a bike messenger and had to work. A lot of business
folks in Richmond would rather give their packages to a guy on a
bike than go outside.

MIRANDA
WINS NORA CUP
DK/Right Guard
Xtreme Sport BMX racer Robbie Miranda won Transworld BMX Magazine’s
coveted 2003 NORA Cup. NORA stands for Number One Rider Award and
is awarded to the people’s choice for their favorite pro.
It’s the only trophy awarded in BMX based on your popularity
rather than how many races you win.
Readers cast their NORA Cup votes by sending in
official ballots that appeared in issues of Transworld BMX (August)
and Ride BMX (September) magazines. The huge win was Miranda’s
second in two years. “Winning the NORA Cup has to be one of
the greatest accomplishments in my career and now I have two,”
explained Miranda.
Miranda has enjoyed another tremendous year that
included winning the Gold Medal at the 2002 X-Games Downhill BMX
race. He also spent two months on the road teaching BMX skills clinics
to local kids who would normally never meet a top pro rider. Miranda
credits these kids along with visitors to his website, robbiemiranda.com
for the win.
Miranda’s DK/Right Guard Xtreme Sport teammates
also fared exceptionally well in the NORA Cup voting. Matt Pohlkamp
(Racer), Chris Doyle (Dirt Jumper), and Colin Winkelmann (Street
Rider) all finished in the top five. Pohlkamp was awarded with the
NORA Cup two years ago.

POHLKAMP EARNS #3 PRO PLATE
DK/Right Guard Xtreme Sport AA Pro BMX racer Matt Pohlkamp finished
the 2002 NBL season ranked 3rd in series points. Matt finished 3rd
last season and entered the 2002 NBL Grands in the 4th place position.
Great gates and a strong first straight kept Matt at the front of
the pack all weekend as he led plenty of laps and made the AA Pro
main event. He finished 4th in the main and moved up into 3rd overall
for the year. Matt's new signature series aluminum frame is called
the DK MP3, so his latest #3 plate is quite appropriate. Matt1s
DK/Right Guard Xtreme Sport teammate and fellow NORA Cup owner Robbie
Miranda earned number 11 for the year. Robbie1s packages from UGP
will only need to contain #11s -- #11 for NBL plates and #1 for
the 2003 X-Games.
WINKELMANN ON TOUR WITH JAY-Z, 311, & NAPPY
ROOTS
DK/Right Guard Xtreme Sport street and park pro Colin Winkelmann
is on the road doing demos on the Sprite Liquid Mix Tour. The tour
includes musical acts Jay Z, 311, Nappy Roots. N.E.R.D., Hoobastank,
and others on a 15 city tour. Each show has been really big and
huge crowds have come out to watch Colin and fellow pros Mike Escamilla,
Mike Ardelean, and Adam Banton. Colin is already looking forward
to touring again next year.
MIRANDA SPENDS X-GAMES CASH ON A NEW HOME
Dirt jumpers who win the X-Games usually blow their winnings on
a tricked-out SUV. Robbie Miranda is a little more practical and
used his X-Games winnings as a down payment on a home in Huntington
Beach, California. Robbie found out that his offer was accepted
while racing at the NBL Grands. Needless to say, Robbie is really
excited and should be engulfed in home improvement projects upon
move-in. Congratulations Robbie from everyone at DK and Right Guard
Xtreme Sport.

DOYLE EARNS X-GAMES BRONZE IN PHILLY
Chris Doyle joined his DK/Right
Guard Xtreme Sport teammate Robbie Miranda as the second team rider
to earn a medal at the 2002 X-Games. Doyle couldn't match Miranda's
first place finish, but scored 3rd in the dirt jumping finals to
score the bronze medal. Third place is Doyle best finish in his
six X-Games appearances.
Doyle entered the X-Games dirt finals in third place after having
a tough time in prelims. He aborted a tail-whip attempt during his
first run in prelims putting a lot of pressure to perform in his
second and third runs. Luckily Chris rode exceptionally well and
moved into 19th after his second run and then 3rd after his third.
His first run score was his lowest and was dropped.
The finals went much better for Doyle as he never dipped lower than
fourth place throughout the event. All four of his runs consisted
of a combination of tail-whips, x-up whips, double truck-drivers,
360 turndowns, and 360 no-footed can-cans. The highlight was his
fourth and final run where he successfully tail-whipped the biggest
jump on the course. The run vaulted him into 3rd place for the Bronze
medal behind Allan Cooke and Ryan Nyquist.
DK/Right Guard Xtreme Sport team riders Matt Pohlkamp, Colin Winkelmann,
and Aaron Behnke all competed in the X-Games. Pohlkamp made the
main and finished 5th in downhill BMX, Winkelmann finished 13th
in park, and Behnke earned 16th in the flatland competition.

MIRANDA WINS X-GAMES GOLD
DK/Right Guard Xtreme Sport pro
BMX racer Robbie Miranda won the 2002 X-Games Downhill BMX Race
at Woodward BMX Camp in Woodward, Pennsylvania. Miranda qualified
first for the event by winning Saturday's time trials by almost
a full second over the second fastest rider, Justin Loffredo. The
time-trial win rewarded Miranda with first lane choice in the starting
gate during every race. He chose the inside lane and used it to
his advantage winning the main event from start to finish.
Miranda's finish was no short of spectacular as he hit the last
jump on the track at full speed, overshot the landing, and crashed
hard. "I don't know what happened. I just couldn't believe
that I won," Miranda explained. He knocked himself out on impact,
but soon came to his senses in time to participate in the awards
ceremony. Miranda was checked out by the X-Games medical staff and
was released with a mild concussion and sprained foot.
Miranda won his quarter final and the main event at the X-Games,
but claimed that no lap was easy. "So much can happen on this
track and anybody can win." He emerged as an early favorite
following his time trials win and was rewarded with plenty of crowd
support. "I couldn't believe all of the Robbie Miranda signs
people made in the crowd," he explained. "I'm just glad
that this race is over, I've been so excited
about this race that I couldn't sleep." Nearly everyone in
attendance expected Miranda to win.
Miranda won the inaugural downhill BMX race at Woodward in 2000.
Last year he suffered a horrific crash just fifty feet before the
finishline after passing Brandon Meadows for the X-Games lead. Miranda
spent the year thinking about that crash and set his sights on redemption.
It became clear that he was determined to win this year's event
during every practice session. He completed the entire course during
his third lap down the track. It took many riders two days of practice
to fully complete to course.
Downhill BMX at the X-Games will be televised on ABC Sports, ESPN,
ESPN2, and the Disney Channel. Visit EXPN.com for airdates.

DK PARTS WAYS WITH RONNY CHALK
DK Bicycles has decided to part
ways with pro dirt jumper Ronny Chalk. As of 8/5/02, Ronny has been
let go from the DK/Right Guard Xtreme Sport team. No single incident
led to Ronny's release, just a difference in direction.

DOYLE EARNS BRONZE AT 2002 GRAVITY GAMES
DK/Right Guard Xtreme Sport BMX dirt jumper Chris Doyle earned third
place at the 2002 NBC Gravity Games in Cleveland, Ohio. He was awarded
with a bronze medal for his efforts, the third of his growing collection.
Doyle finished 3rd in the 2001 event and 2nd in 2000.
Doyle entered the dirt jumping finals with a badly sprained ankle
and plenty of nerves. His ankle has been a reoccurring injury that
he suffered riding skateparks earlier this year. Doyle's nervousness
was due to the added pressure of finishing first in qualifying.
He earned the top spot in the prelims, finishing first out of the
top twenty riders invited to compete.
The dirt finals featured a higher level of competition than in qualifying
and Chris rose to the occasion. He was tied for 4th following the
first round of competition, but then slipped to 7th after crashing
on an x-up tailwhip at the end of his second run. Chris came back
swinging during his 3rd and final run. Highlights including a 360
x-up into the course followed by another 360, a clean tailwhip into
the turn, a turndown out of the corner, and a suicide double-truckdriver
as his finale. He executed his final run in true Doyle fashion;
flawless and smooth. The judges rewarded him with 3rd place overall.
Chris will compete again on Saturday in the bike street prelims.
This will mark Doyle's street debut in Gravity Games competition.
He earned an invitation by finishing 4th in June at the Vans Triple
Crown in Denver.
The Gravity Games will air on network TV from October 6th through
November 17th following Nascar on NBC. In addition, the Gravity
Games are also available live on pay per view.

POHLKAMP SCORES SECOND
IN PITTSBURGH
Team DK/Right Guard Xtreme Sport's Matt
Pohlkamp snagged second place in AA Pro on Saturday at the NBL Stars-n-Stripes
National in Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is home to South Park BMX, arguably
the best traditional BMX track in the sport. South Park's downhill
course is fast paced and full of jumps. Matt loves South Park and
celebrated his 26th birthday with 4-2-2 finishes in the AA Pro mains.
His second place effort was enough to boost him up from 5th to 3rd
place overall in the NBL Pro point standings. Last year Matt finished
3rd overall and proudly displays a big number 3 on his plate. His
prototype aluminum signature model frameset is called the MP3.
ADAMSKI, HORTON, & COLEMAN ADDED TO

DOYLE RIPS IN DENVER AND EARNS GRAVITY GAMES
INVITATION
DK/Right Guard Xtreme Sport rider Chris
Doyle put together an amazing performance at stop two of the Vans
Triple Crown in Denver. Doyle excelled in both the dirt jumping
and park competitions taking 2nd place and 4th place honors. His
4th place performance in the park competition earned him an invitation
to compete in the Gravity Games.Chris Doyle is well known for his
dirt jumping skills and became an early contender for the win. Doyle
combined original runs, difficult tricks, and his silky smooth style
to take 2nd place behind Ryan Nyquist. Doyle knew that he trailed
Nyquist as he headed into the third and final round, so he turned
up the heat. His final run consisted of a double truck-driver over
the first set, tailwhip over the second, three-sixty into the turn,
bar-spin out, and then a no-footed can-can three-sixty over the
final jump. It was an incredible run packed with many of Doyle's
most difficult moves, but he dragged a foot out of his last trick.
Had he pulled his final jump it's likely that he would've won. Doyle
commented that he was happy because he didn't choose the conservative
route. "I put together the hardest run that I could, but I
got lost headed toward the last jump. The no-footed can three was
a last second decision."Doyle's 4th place finish in the park
competition may have actually been more impressive than his 2nd
place performance in dirt. He qualified 3rd out of 63 riders and
put together his best runs of any park event. Highlights of his
runs included a 270 turndown over the hip, pedal stall to 270 drop
off of the sub, brakeless 360 nosebonk over the spine, and a double
bar-spin 180 over the spine. His first runs of both qualifying and
the finals were flawless. He utilized the entire course and the
judges awarded him with 4th place for his efforts. Doyle was extremely
happy with how well he rode. "It was easier to stay relaxed
in park because everyone knows me as a dirt jumper. At the beginning
of the weekend I said that I wanted to qualify for the Gravity Games
and I did it."
MIRANDA RETURNS TO VIRGINIA FOR NBL NATIONAL
DK/Right Guard Xtreme Sport BMX racer Robbie Miranda returned to
his hometown of Woodbridge, Virginia just south of Washington DC
to race at the NBL Freedom Nationals. His weekend at the Woodbridge
track began with a DK/Right Guard Xtreme Sport RM59 BMX clinic and
ended with cash from making both AA Pro main events. Robbie specializes
in downhill BMX races, but managed to make both AA Pro mains finishing
5th and 7th in the process. The DK/Right Guard Xtreme Sport RV will
be stopping at tracks in New Jersey for RM59 BMX clinics and then
west to Pittsburgh for the NBL Stars-n-Stripes Nationals on July
5-7th.
COLIN WINKELMANN HEADED BACK TO CANADIAN
HOSPITAL
DK/Right Guard Xtreme Sport street and park pro Colin Winkelmann
is headed back to Montreal for more work on his left knee. You may
recall that Colin flew to Montreal, Quebec in order to have his
ACL replaced with a synthetic ligament back in April. The surgery
was successful and Colin was back on his bike after only four weeks.
Unfortunately he recently tore the synthetic ligament and is headed
back to Montreal for another surgery during the first week of July.
Colin plans to be back in full for the X-Games on August 14-19th
in Philadelphia.

DOYLE FINISHES SECOND AND EARNS
X-GAMES SPOT
Team DK/Right Guard Xtreme Sport
BMX dirt jumper Chris Doyle finished 2nd at the 2002 CFB series
finals and earned a spot at the 2002 X-Games in Philadelphia. This
strong finish also netted Doyle 2nd place overall in the 2002 CFB
series. Doyle rode well in prelims, but he was disappointed with
his qualifying performance. "I wasn't happy with how conservative
I rode," he explained. Doyle rode as smooth as ever, but didn't
bust out any of his newest moves. His effort earned him the 7th
place slot of ten finalists. Twenty-seven pros rode in the event.
The pro finals were a different story as Doyle dug deep into his
hefty bag of tricks and put together four strong, solid runs. Highlights
included 360 turndowns, tail-whips, 360 no-footed can-cans, and
x-up tail-whips. All four of his runs were flawless and lifted him
from 7th to 2nd overall behind Ryan Nyquist. 2nd place Doyle's best
finish of the year, having finished 3rd in both CFB #1 and the first
stop of the Vans Triple Crown of BMX. Dirt jumping at CFB #2 was
cancelled due to rain.
DOYLE REJECTS NEW TEETH
Chris Doyle's wish for a new set of
teeth recently came true, but he wasn't happy with the look and
sent the doctor back to the drawing board. Doyle's fans should remember
when Chris knocked his front teeth out during a ramp riding accident
in September, 2000. Just a week later Chris rode in pain at the
DK Dirt Circuit finals in Las Vegas and was crowned the 2000 series
champion. Since then Chris has ungone a series of surgeries to repair
his teeth and has spent over $10,000.00 in the process. Unfortunately
for Doyle his new pearly whites weren't up to par by his standards.
He was quoted as saying, "There are a lot of things that I'd
rather be spending my money on, so they need to be perfect."
Doyle's DK/Right Guard Xtreme Sport team-mate Robbie Miranda has
also spent in excess of $10,000.00 repairing his teeth.
RONNY CHALK BREAKS WRIST
Ronny Chalk does some of the best 360 tricks in the business, but
a recent spin went wrong and has sent him to the DK/Right Guard
Xtreme Sport disabled list. Ronny was riding some local trails in
southern California when he aborted a 360 and broke his wrist. This
is Ronny's second broken wrist in just over a year. Last year he
suffered a similar break at the DK Dirt Circuit in Orlando. Ronny's
doctor expects him to be off his bike for 4-6 weeks.

Miranda Takes 2ND At NBL Speedway Nationals
DK/Right Guard Xtreme Sport pro racer Robbie
Miranda earned his best AA Pro finish of the year by taking second
at the NBL Speedway Nationals in East Moline, Illinois. Miranda
reported that windy conditions made for an interesting race, but
he stayed calm and made good decisions to finish third, first, and
third again in the three AA Pro mains. This 3-1-3 score was enough
to earn him second place overall.
Robbie's DK/Right Guard Xtreme Sport team and tour mate Nathan Fons
also had a great weekend finishing 4th in the A Pro main event..
The race was Nathan's first race of the 2002 season due to shoulder
surgery seven months ago. He was very happy to post such a strong
comeback to BMX.

Doyle On WAL-MART TV
Next time you're shopping at Wal-Mart, watch for 2001
DK Dirt Circuit Champ Chris Doyle in a Right Guard Xtreme Sport
commercial on Wal-Mart TV. Doyle makes his acting debut in this
commercial that was filmed on location near San Francisco. "It
was crazy," explained Doyle. "There were about thirty
people there to film the spot. They even hired a mechanic to work
on my bike." Doyle didn't need the mechanic. He doesn't do
any riding in the commercial.
Winkelmann Gets Controversial Knee Surgery
In Canada
Colin Winkelmann suffered his third ACL tear in his left
knee during his 2nd place finish at the La Revolution
event in Toronto on March 2nd. Colin couldn't stand to
be off of his bike for nine months; so he flew to Montreal, Quebec
in order to have a his ACL replaced with a synthetic ligament. The
expensive procedure has yet to be approved by the FDA in America,
but has been proven effective by Matt Hoffman, Dennis McCoy, and
Danny Way. Colin was back on his bike just four weeks following
his surgery and returned to competition at Round 2 of the CFB in
Niagara Falls, New York.
Doyle Scores Cover Of Transworld BMX Magazine
DK/Right Guard Xtreme Sport's Chris Doyle recently appeared
on the cover of Transworld BMX Magazine. The June, 2002 cover shot
features Doyle stretching a huge suicide double-truckdriver at Cory
Nastazio's backyard trails. Chris also appeared on the February/March,
2002 cover of Ride UK BMX Magazine. The oversized BMX magazine from
Great Brittian featured Doyle pulling a 360 tabletop at Buck's Trails
in Erie, Pennsylvania.
Pohlkamp Races Signature Frameset To Podium
NBL National #3 AA Pro Matt Pohlkamp made his DK/Right
Guard Xtreme Sport Team debut at the NBL Christmas Classic and has
been having a great season ever since. Highlight's on Matt's 2002
season include a collection of top three finishes in both AA Pro
and Pro Open, plus a new signature model DK frameset. Matt began

Robbie Miranda won the first ever modern era downhill BMX race back
in July, 2000 at Camp Woodward in Pennsylvania. Since then Robbie

Todd Everette Appears In Useless Filler Video
Ride BMX Magazine gave the new "Filler" video
by Useless four stars. The solid section by DK/Right Guard Xtreme
Sport's Todd Everette is one of the reasons for the great rating.
Todd lives in Richmond, Virginia and spends a lot of time riding
street. His section in Filler shows some of Everette's street and
park prowess. Todd also spends plenty of time on the streets delivering
packages around Richmond. His day job is a bicycle courier.
